Rosie the Riveter

This last weekend was Orem's Summerfest and I decided to put Autumn in the Baby Contest.  The theme for the contest was "Extra-Ordinary in Orem" and I was so stressed out about what to dress Autumn up as.  After bugging just about everyone I know for ideas, in desperation, I finally asked Brian...  (I love him, but his usual response to things like this is, "Whatever you want to do.")  BUT, to my amazement, after prodding him a bit for ideas he finally said, "What about dressing her up as Rosie the Riveter?"  I was shocked-that was a great idea!  (Let's be honest, I was shocked he even knew who Rosie the Riveter was!)  So, with the expert skills of my mother-in-law, we turned Autumn into this:

We had a blast getting everything just right.

So, here we are getting ready in the morning:

Here's the final product:

Autumn being judged:
Hanging out with Dad

Here's us at the Awards ceremony anxiously waiting to find out if we won
Autumn was judged in two categories: 10-14 month girls and costume girls.  We listened as they read the winners of the 10-14 month girls and Autumn's name wasn't read.  I figured that was really our only chance since the costume girls judged all ages of girls in costume.  Well, they read the third place winner for girl's costume and it wasn't Autumn.  They read the second place winner and it wasn't Autumn.  At that point I just figured that she hadn't won at all and then they said, "First place costume winner is Autumn Furr!"  Mom and a bunch of friends were there and they all started screaming and I had one of those moments where I thought, "Wait, what's my daughter's name?"  It was awesome; we were all so super excited.

Going up to get our award

When we walked back throught the crowd, a ton of people were oohing and ahhing over Autumn's costume.  Stacey had called Brian's mom to tell her that Autumn won and everyone back at Brian's parents house were pretty excited.

The winner! (That crazy look on my face was shock)
Here's Autumn with Mom Furr

The first place winners got to be in the parade on Saturday night.  I was so excited cause I'd never been in a parade before.  I was definitely more excited about it all than Autumn was.  Oh well.  We saw friends and family and Autumn did pretty good during the length of the parade.  She definitely had no idea what was going on, but she'd laugh and wave at all the people.

Us in the parade

We were so excited to hear that she won! I'm sad we didn't make it to the parade though. The costume turned out perfect and it was just the right thing for her to wear! I think if she'd done a fake sneeze for the judges she would have won in her age group too. ( :

Riding in a parade is cool, but riding in a cow-mobile in a parade, it doesn't get much better than that!
